Pattern prints
Grade 8
This is all about you. What you want your viewers to know about you?
After investigating how patterns are used in various cultures, it’s time to develop a pattern that represents you. What kind of symbols might you use to communicate your passions or culture? Is there something else you would like people to know? Using line, we will be creating a design meant to be repeated in a series of block prints. After you have amassed eight to ten nice, clean prints, your pattern will form the background of your upcoming “Who I Am” charcoal self-portrait.
Practice creating interesting colour combinations with ink and paper, and experiment with making gradients. What happens when you roll your brayer in a circular motion on the inking plate? Experiment away!
