The Hearts

When I heard that Grade 11’s Biology class had some dissected goat hearts lying around, I pulled a Da Vinci and snatched them. Actually, I had asked Ms. McFarlane politely if she would be needing the hearts, and if Grade 8 could use them to make contour drawings of the structures. Thankfully, she said yes.

As this was the first time anyone in class had drawn a real heart, they sketched out the shapes in pencil first, then went over their lines in pen. Here’s a quote from Halim that sums up the experience:

“It was the first time that I saw something dissected. With a real heart and everything. I’ve only saw these kind of things in a typical TV show. It was fascinating to draw these hearts in close detail and I think I added a valuable memory to my art life.”
